Terms of Use

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of lumadirect.org and the Luma Direct program (the "Service"). The Service is operated by Luma Direct, a Utah nonprofit corporation that is tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (EIN 41-4875233). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Education and navigation only, not medical care

Luma Direct provides education and navigation support for families adjusting to a new Type 1 diabetes diagnosis. We do not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and nothing on the Service, including content produced by our AI-assisted tools, is a substitute for advice from a qualified healthcare professional.

  • Using the Service does not create a doctor-patient or other clinical relationship.
  • Always follow the instructions of your child's or your own care team, and talk with them before making any medical decision, including about insulin, food, devices, or activity.
  • In an emergency, call your care team's urgent line or 911 right away. Do not wait for, or rely on, anything on this Service.
  • We do not guarantee any health, financial, insurance, school, or other outcome.

2. Who can use the Service

  • You must be at least 13 years old to create an account and enroll a family.
  • Children under 13 may not create an account. They may use the Service only through a parent or legal guardian who gives verifiable consent. A parent or legal guardian may enroll more than one child and manages each child's program.
  • If you enroll on behalf of a child or another person, you confirm that you are that child's parent or legal guardian, or that you have that person's permission, and that you are allowed to share the information you provide.
  • If you invite family members or supporters, you are responsible for choosing who you invite and what access level they receive.

3. Accounts and Google sign-in

  • You sign in with a Google account. You are responsible for keeping that account secure and for activity under your Luma Direct account.
  • Each person should use their own login. Do not share your account.
  • Tell us right away at support@lumadirect.org if you think your account has been used without permission.
  • We may suspend or close accounts that break these Terms or put others at risk.

4. Donations

  • Donations to Luma Direct are voluntary gifts. They do not buy, and are not required for, access to the program.
  • Luma Direct is a 501(c)(3) public charity. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. We do not provide tax advice; please consult your tax advisor.
  • Payments are processed by Stripe. Monthly donations repeat each month until you cancel. You can change or cancel your monthly gift at any time by emailing support@lumadirect.org.
  • Refunds: If you made a donation in error, email support@lumadirect.org within 30 days and we'll review your request. Refunds are at Luma Direct's discretion.
  • We send a receipt for each donation. Please keep it for your tax records.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the Service for emergency or urgent medical decisions;
  • submit detailed medical records, lab results, glucose readings, or dosing information (our tools may block this);
  • submit information about another person that you are not authorized to share;
  • misuse enrollment codes, invite links, or partner onboarding pages, or share them outside their intended use;
  • attempt unauthorized access, probe or disrupt the Service, scrape it, or bypass security or privacy controls;
  • use the Service, including our AI tools, to harass anyone, to break the law, or to create misleading medical content.

6. Partners

Clinics, employers, educators, and community organizations that use partner invites, enrollment codes, or partner billing are also subject to our Partner Program Terms. Luma Direct may suspend or revoke invite links or enrollment codes for misuse, misrepresentation, security concerns, or operational need.

7. Content and intellectual property

  • The Service, including its program materials, text, design, and software, belongs to Luma Direct or its licensors. You may use it for your family's personal, non-commercial use. Clinics, schools, and educators may print and share our program materials with families for free, as long as they do not change them or charge for them.
  • Third-party resources we link to belong to their owners. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content.
  • Notes, checklists, and outputs you save remain yours. You give Luma Direct permission to store and process them only to operate the Service for you.

8. AI-assisted tools

If we offer AI-assisted tools, their output is general educational information, not medical advice. AI tools can make mistakes. Review anything they produce carefully and check anything important with your care team.

9. Changes to the Service and to these Terms

We may update, change, suspend, or discontinue features or content at any time. We may update these Terms; we will post the new version with a new effective date, and we will notify account holders of material changes. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept them.

10. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF ACCURACY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT, TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW. Luma Direct does not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that content is complete or current.

11. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, LUMA DIRECT AND ITS DIRECTORS, OFFICERS, VOLUNTEERS, AND STAFF ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY HEALTH OUTCOME OR DECISION MADE IN RELIANCE ON THE SERVICE. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limits, so some of these may not apply to you.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.

13. General

If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. These Terms, the Privacy Policy, and (for partners) the Partner Program Terms are the full agreement between you and Luma Direct about the Service.
